I recently pulled together a few files to post on the Blizzard “World of Warcraft” forums, so I thought I’d post them here as well for those interested.

I like to keep everything confined to the lowest third/quarter of the screen when at all possible, to keep the clutter manageable. World of Warcraft is a great looking game, I like to see as much of it as I can! Here are some screenshots.

And finally, I’ve made a .zip file (~14.7mb) containing all of these AddOns available for download – the usual disclaimers apply, i.e., I am not the author of any of these AddOns, I’m only providing them as-is in a convenient bundle that I myself use.

A few points of interest:

  • The blue chat window in the lower left corner displays the system messages, guild chat, and any custom chat channels; the red chat window in the lower right corner is the combat log (parsed by Nurfed).
  • I can click open other chat windows as needed (see the screenshot above, “Chat/Channel Windows”) – one for Party/Raid chat (on the left – empty in the screenshot as I wasn’t in a Party), one for the General and Trade channels, and one for the Looking For Group channel (both on the right).
  • There are three bars at the top of the screen, hidden by default (see the screenshot above for “Emergency Bars” to see all three open). The top bar holds frequently used macros, particularly the three macros for toggling on/off the various Chat/Channel Windows, and appears when moused over or when I hold the Ctrl key. The Healing bar appears when my Health is below 15%, and holds healing/purification pots, bandages, and food; the Mana bar appears when my Mana is below 15%, and holds mana pots/gems and water. All of this is accomplished using Discord Action Bars.
  • All of my abilities are contained on two hotbars just to the right of the minimap. The lower of the two is static and does not change – it holds things I want to keep handy, mostly pots, gems, Slow Fall, Cannibalize, etc. The higher of the two bars contains 6 separate ‘pages’ of 12 buttons each for a grand total of 72 buttons available without moving my fingers from the keyboard (actually a Nostromo N52 Speedpad). The middle-mouse button cycles up by 1 page, the thumb-mouse button cycles down by 1 page, so no ability, no matter how rarely used, is ever more than three mouse clicks away.

I think that’s about everything! It’s fairly easy to change the “World of Warcraft” user interface with AddOns, just download, unzip to the “Interface/AddOns” directory, and you’re good to go. If you download my collection, be aware that I may not have included the latest version of every AddOn, but as a whole they all currently seem to work well together. Also, due to the sheer number involved, you will have some work to do the first time you log in – many of these AddOns can be configured in a variety of ways. But once everything is set and saved, I think it makes the game much smoother to play.
